Tayah's Story

I got pregnant in April 1998.  I was sick my whole pregnancy.  I had morning sickness for 4 months.  I was gaining weight just fine but I had a feeling there was something wrong.  I begged for an ultra sound but my Dr said NO!   Tayah was born on Jan. 22, 1999 at 4:55 PM.  She was 8lb 5 1/2 oz and 21 inches long.  She was full term.  On Jan. 25 she had a seizure in the nursery so that's when they decided to do an ultrasound of her brain.  It came back fuzzy so they decided to do a CAT scan and a EEG.  On Jan. 26 at 5:00 PM the Dr came in and said that Tayah didn't have the front right or some of her left parts of her brain.   I was so shocked 'cause I followed everything by the book when I was pregnant.   The only thing I remember was the words Cerebral Palsy, mental retardation and seizures.  It was very hard on my family but I realized that I have a very supportive family.

Everything was fine until July when she had the first seizure that I had seen.  It was so short I couldn't even tell what it was but her Pediatrician told me it was a seizure.  They started her on Tegretol.  That worked until Oct. 24.   She had a seizure for 14 minutes.  Then after that she wouldn't stop jerking her body but she was alert and smiling.  So that was when they started her on Phenobarb.  For right now Tayah's seizures are 7-10 minutes, 5-8 times a day.   They started her on Phenobarb pills but I don't see a change.  Her pediatrician said that her seizures may be uncontrollable which really scares me.
