Kemmer's Story

I was two months from being 21 when I had him. I didn't know that I was pregnant( gained only 10 lbs. I weighed 100 lbs. at the time so for me I just filled out a little and looked really good. I had my periods until May, he was born in July. I have always had odd periods, so I didn't think anything of it. He also never moved inside, so there was no reason for me to think I might be pregnant. Needless to say, I was a bit shocked. I decided to keep him because I felt he was my responsibility. About two weeks later,

I was in love! At 2 months his eyes were bouncing around so much that my dad said it hurt to look at his eyes. I ended up taking him to a pediatric ophthalmologist who said that he had "abnormal optic nerves", take him for an M.R.I. So that's how he was diagnosed. Everything else was normal. He was having seizures since birth, but a nurse practitioner said it was his reaction to colic. Two weeks after he was diagnosed, he had one seizure for 45 mins. He had to be life-flighted to a hospital an hour away. They kept him in for five days to get his phenobarb. level under control. His longest hospital stay, by the way. When he was eight months old he was put on DDAVP. His only meds. He nursed until he was 8 1/2 months old, and weaned himself. When he was nursing, he would have NOTHING to do with a bottle or pacifier. He started eating solid foods around the same time he quit nursing. It's been EAT, EAT, EAT ever since. I personally think he's doing very well. His neurologist has told me on several occasions that he is amazed by Kemmer. He goes to school four days a week, for about five or six hours( I stay with him, because I can't find it in myself to leave him there), and he loves it. He has contractures in his arms, and his left hip is dislocated. His head is rather large, but it seems to have stopped growing. These are his only flaws. He is the most perfect child in the world! He communicates well and has such a personality. He loves hard rock music, not surprising that his dad is a musician. He has no two front teeth at the moment but big teeth are on the way! I can't think of much else to tell you except that he is absolutely the best thing to ever happen to me. He is my perfect child.
