Choices
At some point in the life of our children we are going to be asked to make difficult choices for them. This page offers links with information on Do Not Resuscitate orders and hospice or palliative care. It is here for information purposes only. There is very little information available on the internet regarding children so most of these links contain info aimed at adults. At one point or another most of us have felt pressured to agree to DNR orders for our children. The links in this site will hopefully help with figuring out what your and your children's rights are, what these orders do and do not mean, etc. The legalities involved differ from state to state and country to country so when reading info make sure you know where it's talking about.
This page specifically relates to the practical issue of making decisions. For information on grief and loss go to: http://members.xoom.com/hydranenceph/angellinks.htm For links relating to ethics go to: http://members.xoom.com/hydranenceph/ethics.htm
About.com httpwww.vh.orgPatientsIHBFamilyPracticeAFPNovemberNovTwo.html (Iowa Children's Hospital info on DNR orders and advance directives-aimed at adults) About.com httpfreenet.buffalo.edubioethicdnr-p (Do Not Resucitate orders, a guide for patients and families) www.kentlaw.edu Death By Default, Law and Contemporary Problems freenet.buffalo.edu Great info on the DNR, what it includes and what it doesn't, I believe this relates to New York state, but may relate to other areas as well. Ask NOAH About Patient's Rights and Resources and Physician Information (the above article is in this section but there's lots more info on the main site) LEGAL AND POLITICAL ISSUES IN NURSING (this is a forum where questions are posted, there's not much on dnr but a few links that are interesting, and I think anyone can ask questions) List of Patient Orders You Choose for Yourself (interesting) members.aol.com (Patient Empowerment and Medical Acountability) SchoolNurse.com Do-Not-Resuscitate Orders (looks great) REMAC of N.Y.C. - A.L.S. Protocols good info ADVANCE DIRECTIVES this is a bibliography but may give an idea of where to start to look for info. www.med.virginia.edu (Hospital policy manual, pages 41-47 give the DNR policy) |
